Ever been to a Japanese barbecue? Me neither! Until recently, when I was invited to try the Yakitori night at the newly named Iroko Bar, Leeds.
Every other Thursday, Iroko Leeds puts on a Japanese style barbecue called the Yakitori tasting event. Yakitori is actually a type of Japanese skewered chicken, but is just one of the delicacies served.
Yakitori Tasting at Iroko Leeds
It was definitely an interesting tasting event, and I’d encourage anyone to go to try something a bit different. The dishes seemed small, but the course was definitely filling.
There were plenty of cocktails and drinks on the menu to wash it down with too.
From chicken thighs and chicken meatballs, to ox tongue and duck heart, this tasting session is for those who love to experiment with food. I loved all of the dishes except for the ox tongue. The texture just didn’t work for me, but the taste was still great, so I’d recommend trying.
I’ll show a few dishes, but want some to be a surprise should you go.
The restaurant is small, but not without character. From the large bar, simple, but effective brown interior styling, it’s a great space to relax after work, for dates, or a catch up with a friend. You could stop for just drinks, but I think you’d be missing out.
I think the Yakitori tasting event would be especially fun with a group. It’s only £20 for the whole meal and is an experience you won’t get just anywhere.
It’s a cosy bar, near to well-known shops and bars, so a perfect stop after a day out in Leeds too.
Have you been to a Japanese barbecue or tried yakitori? Would you brave the duck heart and ox tongue?
You can check out this and other events on Iroko’s website.
