How to spend a weekend in Harrogate

I love a good staycation and lately I’ve been thinking about how great it is to visit new places in the UK. Since moving to Yorkshire, I’ve been to loads of nearby cities and towns, but one of my favourite places to spend the day is Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

I realise it may be a bit far for some to visit for the day, but Harrogate is the perfect place for a UK weekend break. As well as being on the doorstep of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, which are definitely worth a visit, there’s plenty to do in the town itself too.

I haven’t had the need to stay overnight in Harrogate, but you can find great deals on places to stay on Great Little Breaks. I thought I’d tell you the best places I’ve found to visit while in Harrogate to save you the hard work!

How to spend a weekend in Harrogate

Where to eat & drink.

Banyan Bar & Kitchen.

There are plenty of amazing places to dine in Harrogate, but John Street is full of great restaurants. One of my favourites is Banyan Bar & Kitchen, great for brunch or for dinner. The food is always perfect, and the bar itself is beautifully decorated, plus it’s suitable for anyone from groups to couples. There is also an extensive cocktail and gin menu, so it’s perfect for weekend drinks.

Pro tip: I would definitely recommend the Teriyaki Belly Pork and Tempura King Prawns for starters!

Bistrot Pierre.

Another favourite restaurant of mine is Bistrot Pierre, a French restaurant with fantastic lunch and dinner offers. I was so impressed with every part of my meal there – not easily done for this fussy one! It’s reasonably priced and has a great outdoor seating area for sunny days. The food is excellent, even down to the best side salad I’ve ever tasted. There’s a fantastic selection of wine on offer too.

Recommendation: Boeuf braisé (as shown below).

Betty’s Tea Rooms.

No visit to Yorkshire would be complete without a visit to the famous Bettys Tea Rooms! A great spot for a break while shopping or for an afternoon tea. This place has to be experienced, but perfect tea, scrumptious sandwiches and gorgeous sweet treats are the specialties here.

Where to go.

A Walk Around Town.

The picturesque town is great for a daytime stroll, full of high end and high street shops, boutiques, and independent stores. The architecture is incredible so it’s really worth just going for a walk and taking it all in.

Valley Gardens.

You can also visit Valley Gardens, which is a beautiful park in the town centre. There are often events in the park, so it’s worth checking before visiting.

Royal Hall Theatre.

The Royal Hall is a Grade II* listed performance hall and theatre. It’s worth checking what’s on before your visit as there is always something different, from comedians to plays.

Pampering.

Everybody loves to be pampered while away, and there are some perfect places for just that in Harrogate.

Turkish Baths and Spa

The beautiful Turkish Baths and Spa are the ideal treat, with plenty of treatments and packages to help you completely unwind.

Margaret Dabbs London – Foot Clinic and Nail Spa

For a foot treatment, manicure and pedicure like never before, this is the perfect indulgent treat. You can read more about my own experience here.

Hopefully this gives an idea of how you could spend a lovely weekend in Harrogate.
